1. How much will it cost?

It depends. The first thing to consider is how many people you wish to serve with your cake. Base prices start at $4.00 per serving for small/coffee/finger portions, and $8.00 per serving for dessert-sized portions. I do not charge extra for tiered cakes.

In all cakes, this includes the design of your cake, your choice of cake flavours, complementing fillings for each tier, ganache covering, and either buttercream or fondant. It includes a covered cake board, satin ribbon to the base of each tier and around the cake board edge, all internal support, basic piping including borders, ingredients/allergen disclosure, and cutting guide.

Additional decorative effects are charged according to time, ingredients used, and level of intricacy.

2. What are "additional decorative effects"?

These include sugar flowers and leaves, custom-made toppers (fondant or polymer clay), extensive piping and lacework, ruffled effects, fondant molding, gold and silver leaf, airbrushing, hand-painting, stencilling, tier separators, pillars, 3D carving of cake (including handmade internal support structures), amongst other things. I am always happy to quote for these items separately, per each custom cake design.

Aside from custom made items, we can also provide commercial/third-party cake toppers (eg custom laser- or die-cut toppers, Moments figurines etc), monograms, non-edible beading and rhinestone trims.

3. Is there anything I CAN'T have on my cake?

While some things are considered "non-toxic", that does not mean they should be placed on the cake surface. This includes cake decorators' "disco dust" (a.k.a. cake glitter - which is made from finely ground plastic), individual real diamantes/rhinestones, feathers and fur. Please ask if you are unsure.

Due to international copyright laws and a respect for intellectual property, I am also unable to provide any custom-made cakes or decorations which are replicas of copyrighted characters, business logos, and products. This includes 'name brand' bags, Disney characters, and perfume/clothing company logos, UNLESS you provide me with written permission from the copyright/trademark owner. I can however create a cake suitable to the theme and you can provide a purchased licensed product (eg a toy or figurine) to place on or near the cake.

4. How much cake do I need?

Once you provide your guest numbers, I will present you with a number of alternatives for your design. Unless you request extra servings, the cake design will be sized as close to the number of portions required, so you are not paying for cake you do not need or want.

Our cutting guides are based on industry standard:

  • For dessert portions: 1" x 2" x height of cake (minimum 4.25")

  • For coffee/finger portions: 1" x 1" x height of cake (minimum 4.25")

5. How do I place an order?

Please use the Contact Us page to submit your query first and foremost. We will check our availability right away and let you know if we can help. If we do have availability for your date, we will provide you a rough estimate of price.

Please note that we operate on a first in, first served basis. A deposit of $100 is required to secure your booking. Unfortunately, unless you have agreed to our written cake quote and have placed a deposit, you are not booked in.

6. Do you have a shop front?

NO. Sweet Perfection operates from a home-based cake studio. I am registered with the NSW Food Authority, Lake Macquarie City Council, am insured and carry a current certificate in Food Safety Supervisor (FSS). I also have a Certificate III in Retail Bakery (Combined) through TAFE NSW, and carry PL Insurance.

All cakes are custom-made fresh to order. We do not have any baked goods for sale on a daily basis. Cakes are only made after consultation, planning, and payment in advance.

Consultations, where deemed necessary, are by appointment only. We do not accept walk-ins. 

7. Do you offer gluten free/vegan/egg-free/nut-free cakes?

Our kitchen does process eggs, nuts, soy, dairy products and wheat products on a daily basis. The incidence of allergic and anaphylactic reactions to food allergens is increasing in our community. Due to public health and safety, and cross-contamination considerations, we have made the decision to no longer supply allergen-free cakes as we cannot in any way guarantee that any special dietary cakes would be free from traces of these allergens.

If you have an allergy or food intolerance, we would advise seeking a specialist baker. They will have strict practices which ensure no traces of allergens will be present in their bakery kitchen, and hence your cake.

8. Do you have a minimum order value?
